#BestAlbumsOf2013

Kanye West’s “Yeezus,” Daft Punk’s “Random Access Memories,” and Lorde’s “Pure Heroine” are all major releases,  but “The  Music  of Grand Theft Auto V” is one that probably flew under most people’s radar. Instead of opting for a ranked list, here’s our take on those that are must-hears. You ain’t got the answers Sway!

Spotify Playlist: #SchoolsOut

With the school year ending (college, law school, med school , the School of Hard Knocks), we thought it was only right to do a “School’s Out” playlist. Especially if the season’s got you feeling as elated as this kid:

schools_out

If you’re anything like our editors in their late 20s…looking back on your school days, you probably have a hazy mix of memories of summer vacations, playing beer pong at campus parties, and at some point, maybe actually doing a piece of homework or two. At any rate, we thought the “School’s Out” theme would best be captured with some classic songs like the Beastie Boys, “Fight For Your Right to Party,” Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall,” and Alice Cooper’s, “School’s Out for the Summer,” along with some of our favorite 90s nostalgia, and party cuts.

To truly capture the 90s, we even threw in Celine Dion’s “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now.” And lastly since most of our playlists are hip-hop and indie themed, we had to top things off with a few current hits. So sit back and enjoy. Hopefully you’ve grown up since the days when you were as immature as these guys:

The #LaborDayWeekendPlaylist

Trillectro has already passed, but the concept was inspiring: hip-hop+electronica. This weekend Jay-Z will be in Philly at the Made in America Festival, where the lineup is more of the same (see above).

We wanted to expand on the concept with a smooth playlist for Labor Day Weekend. Tracks by Gotye, Frank Ocean, Lady Gaga, Lana del Rey, Nas, Amy Winehouse, A$AP Rocky, Inky Jack, and more.

Happy Labor Day Weekend, and as always…keep it trill.

Spotify Playlist – “Rock and Bacon: Day Bidet”

The weekly Princeakeem playlist focuses on music we think you should hear–new, old, or just good stuff in general. It’s a dope idea to make a playlist of your favorite songs. It’s an even doper idea to make a playlist that changes every week.

“Rock and Bacon: Day Bidet,” is a playlist updated by SF/LA-based “The Cali Collective.” Group members include Leigh Sassone, Margot Stephenson, Brandy Troxler, Aaron Apple, and Victoria Behrens.

Rock And Bacon: Day Bidet – Updated On The Regular

This week’s playlist features everything from indie folk to world music to 70s Funk. It includes songs by Santigold, Kool & The Gang, Flying Lotus…and a track by Swede Jens Lekman that’s as smooth as anything Marvin Gaye ever did.

Look out for more weekly playlists on princeakeem.com. As always, enjoy!!
